Giraffe-Necked Weevil Facts | Madagascar Wildlife Guide
This herbivorous beetle, Trachelophorus giraffa, derives its name from its extremely long neck, reminiscent of that of a giraffe. The neck of the male is three times longer than that of a female, making its total body length approximately 1 inch. Weevils use this unique adaption to battle for a mate and build nests—females bend and roll up large leaves, laying a single egg in the tube.Header Credit: Court Whelan
